Annatto seed also known as Bix Orellana. Annatto seed is referred to as "poor man's saffron" and is used as a substitute in the culinary arts. Annatto seeds have been used historically as a dye for textiles as well as for body paint and artwork. Aroma similar to saffron or paprika with a bright coloring.
